FOOD FACT FRIDAY – Nuts (walnuts, cashews, almonds)

Food Fact Friday – is to help educate how some foods are very nourishing to our body!

Nuts are an easy item to store in your freezer to have on hand at all times. They also make a great snack.

CASHEWS in particular are high in magnesium which helps open blood vessels, including those in the brain.
Research has shown that cerebral blood flow translates to an elevated mood. (1)

Serotonin affects the body by acting as a mood stabilizer. As mentioned, tryptophan is needed to help synthesize serotonin and WALNUTS are packed with tryptophan.(2, 3)

Another mood boosting compound is tyrosine. Tyrosine is one of the building blocks to the creation of dopamine. Dopamine is known as the “feel good” neurotransmitter. And ALMONDS are a good source of tyrosine! (4)

Another health benefit is that these nuts are a good source of omega 3s. This can help lower the omega 6 to omega 3 ratio which can help reduce inflammation (5).
.
Other nuts have amazing health benefits too, but today’s post was just on cashews, walnuts, and almonds.
