Household Items: Children’s Cough Syrup

By December 28, 2019No Comments

Most cough syrups on the market for kids contain many of my ?? ingredients:
❌Acesulfame Potassium (Ace-k)
❌High fructose corn syrup
❌Artificial dyes
❌Artificial flavors
“After studying the use of cough and cold medicines in young children, the FDA determined two things:
There is no evidence that cough and cold medicines are safe or effective for young children. There IS evidence that children have been harmed by overdoses of these products. Problems include seizures, coma, and death.” (1)

These are the products of concern:
1️⃣Antihistamines: Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine often used in cough syrup. This can be harmful in large amounts or given too frequently(2,3).
2️⃣Decongestants: Phenylephrine, a decongestant, has stimulant side effects and an overdose can cause seizures and high blood pressure.(1)

3️⃣Cough suppressants: Dextromethorphan, used as a cough suppressant, that is in the morphinan class of medications. It can cause nausea, vomiting, fast heart rate, slow breathing or coma if too much is taken. (1)
.. ??Remember there is always a better choice out there. Wellements has a cough syrup that uses organic ingredients. They are free from: artificial dyes, flavors, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, gluten, dairy, soy, alcohol.

They use ingredients like:
✨Organic Honey-helps soothe coughs and mucus
✨Organic Lemon Balm & Organic Chamomile extract-helps with sleeping
✨Organic Elderberry-helps boost immunity
✨Organic Wild Cherry bark & Slippery Elm bark-helps with cough and dry throat
✨ Organic Ginger Root-helps with nausea.

Because I love these products I’ve teamed up with them and have a discount code for you. Use: JUSTINGREDIENTS on their website HERE.

If you have little kids I hope this blog post was helpful! My advice: Don’t wait until someone is sick in your home to buy supplements. Be prepared for any bug going around this winter! For my blog post about reducing toxins, click HERE.
