Frequently asked question❓- because of this current idea in society, that we shouldn’t teach our kids that food is good or bad, healthy or unhealthy, I get asked on a daily basis, “how then do I teach my kids what they should eat and shouldn’t eat?”
At a very young age, we begin teaching our children how to judge using knowledge to make smart choices.
1️⃣For instance, as young as toddlers and preschoolers, we teach that there are good people and bad people, and that unfortunately not all people are just nice people. We teach them that if someone at the park wants to show them their puppy, they don’t go wandering off with them. We teach that if someone offers them candy from their car, to not go over to the car. We teach our kids that these are abductors, kidnappers, or bad guys depending on which wording you use to best teach your kids.
2️⃣As young as elementary school age, we teach that there are good drugs & bad drugs. That drugs are just not drugs. We teach that antibiotics are drugs that are miraculous and can be life saving. Yet we teach, “Say No to Drugs” during our nationwide Red Ribbon weeks at the schools. The schools teach how cocaine and heroine are horrible and can be devastating to one’s life. You can call this good drugs vs. bad drugs. Or medicinal drugs vs. addictive drugs. Or life saving drugs vs. devastating drugs, but how you word it to best teach your kids is up to you.
3️⃣At school they teach that there are good internet sites and bad internet sites. They put restrictions on the computers and teach the kids that if they come across a site that has inappropriate content, to quickly click out of the site and tell an adult. You can call this appropriate sites or inappropriate sites, good sites or bad sites. How you word it to best teach your kids is up to you.
So as with most choices in life, what wording you use to teach your kids what to eat is up to you. We all would agree that eating chips, soda, ice cream, and cookies all day would not be nourishing to the body. We all would agree that eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, is what makes our bodies run optimally.
