Mother’s Day: Bath Items

?Mother’s Day Gift Ideas ?- Bath items

Taking a bath is where I go to escape the worries or frustrations of the day, and to enjoy a few moments by myself ?. And I love a bath with a bath bomb, bath salts, or even bubbles and candles once in awhile.

Many of these “relaxing” products on the market contain ingredients that are not nourishing to the body. I want to be soaking in nourishing ingredients.

Many bath bombs and bath bubbles have artificial fragrance and artificial dyes. Many artificial fragrances contain phthalates. Phthalates are a known endocrine disruptor that mimics estrogen or other hormones in the body. The endocrine disruptor binds to a receptor within a cell and blocks the real hormone from binding. The normal signal then fails to occur. And some studies have shown artificial dyes can be absorbed into skin.(1, 2)

??A better bath bomb and bath bubbles will include nourishing ingredients that:
-soothe and moisturize skin like shea butter and cocoa butter (3,4)
-have antioxidant properties that protects against skin damage like vitamin E (5)
-use essential oils like eucalyptus and herbs like comfrey root for their anti inflammatory properties (6)
-include lavender for its relaxation benefits (7)

??And another favorite of mine to soak in are magnesium flakes and bath salts. They can nourish the body by:
-providing relief from minor aches and pains (8)
-increasing magnesium levels in the body (9)
-helping to relieve stress (10)
-softening skin (11)
-providing trace minerals like calcium, potassium, sulphur, zinc and selenium (12)
