Replace: Artificial Dyes. Add: Prebiotics and Probiotics

Day 4 –
When on a health journey it requires removing some things and adding in others. If brand new on a journey, maybe replacing and adding in is too much. And that’s ok. Come back to these posts when you’re ready to do the other part!

REPLACE: artificial dyes

1️⃣Does not help the immune system – “The molecules of synthetic colorants are small, and the immune system finds it difficult to defend the body against them.” (5)

2️⃣According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the food dye yellow 5 showed genotoxicity (this refers to a toxin that damages DNA molecules in genes) in 6 out of 11 studies. They also state, “The three most widely used dyes, Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6, are contaminated with known carcinogens.” (6,7)

3️⃣They also found that “numerous studies have found that mixtures of dyes cause hyperactivity and other behavioral impairments in children.” (8)

ADD IN -Probiotics:
1️⃣Gut issues can contribute to inflammation. Probiotics help strengthen and populate gut flora, prevent disease, and actually destroy other pathogens. Having your gut health in a healthy, thriving state positively impacts everything from mood to brain function to your immune system (2).
.
2️⃣According to PhD Lucy Shewell, “Many clinical studies have investigated the effect of probiotics on human health. The reported beneficial effects of probiotic consumption include improvement of constipation, diarrhea, and intestinal inflammatory conditions (such as Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and necrotizing enterocolitis), &the prevention of allergic disease in infants.” (2)
.
3️⃣Helps with eczema. A study of nearly 10,000 Koreans found that eating fermented food with probiotics was associated with a 44% lower prevalence of eczema in adults. That is incredible! Researchers give credit to the probiotics they found: L. paracasei, L. acidophilus, L. Salivaris, B. animalis, B. lactis & B. breve. (3)
.
4️⃣Helpful to those with type 2 diabetes or working in weight loss, lowering cholesterol, and boosting the immune system (1).
