The Perfect Cinnamon Rolls for Winter Mornings

Posted by Karalynne Call on

Whether you’re making a holiday breakfast or special treat for your family, homemade cinnamon rolls are a no-brainer. They create a sense of nostalgia for many and for others they’re just downright delicious. While it’s easy to just grab the tube of pre-made cinnamon rolls from the grocery store, this recipe is quick to put together and contains better choice ingredients. Plus, they’re just as tasty!

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup honey or 1/2 cup organic sugar
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 5-6 cups organic flour

Filling ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp softened butter
  • 2/3 cup brown cane sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Frosting ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a mixer, combine coconut oil, egg, and salt. Mix. Then add 1 cup bubbly starter
  2. Add flour one cup at a time while gradually mixing. Add flour until dough won’t stick to the sides of bowl.
  3. Knead 5-10 minutes, or until dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise for 6-8 hours.
  5. On a floured surface, roll dough into a rectangle 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Spread out softened butter and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll tightly. Use thread tout into 16 even pieces.
  7. Place rolls on cookie sheet. Cover for 10 minutes, then bake at 375 for 14-16 minutes.
  8. Whip up butter, cream cheese, powdered guar, milk, and vanilla, and spread evenly on warm rolls. Enjoy warm!
