Ongoing Allegations & Clarifications
We are aware of recent claims suggesting that some of our products exceed safe heavy metal levels or violate California’s Proposition 65 guidelines.
These allegations stem from a small group called the Environmental Research Center (ERC)—not to be confused with the Environmental Working Group (EWG). The ERC has a history of filing lawsuits under Prop 65, often targeting natural products that use whole-food-based ingredients, where trace amounts of naturally occurring elements can be found.
Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a California law requiring companies to provide warnings if their products contain even trace amounts of certain substances—many of which occur naturally in food-based ingredients like fruits, vegetables, and plant proteins. California’s Prop 65 limits are not enforced by other states or even federal agencies.
To ensure full compliance and avoid confusion, customers shopping on our website from the state of California see a Prop 65 warning pop-up prior to purchase.
Because our products are made with real, whole-food ingredients, trace levels of naturally occurring elements like heavy metals can sometimes be present. While the majority of our products test within Prop 65 limits, certain batches, with higher fruit powder or cocoa concentrations, may occasionally test above the threshold. To support our customers in making informed choices, we are one of a handful of companies that publish Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for our protein powders, electrolytes, and supplements so that individuals can review testing data and decide what’s best for their personal needs.
We also want to address concerns regarding recent changes to our website copy. Within the last year we updated product descriptions across our site to reflect the most current information available and to ensure full compliance with Prop 65 regulations. However, during a website software update, some of our updated copy was unintentionally reverted to older, outdated versions. Once we became aware of the issue, we moved quickly to correct the language and restore the accurate information.
As a growing company, we are continually working to audit and refine our website content to ensure it remains clear, transparent, and compliant. We recognize that this oversight may have caused confusion, and for that, we sincerely apologize.
Rest assured, we are deeply committed to the safety and quality of our products. That’s why we’ve taken the added step of sending several of our products through NSF certification—specifically NSF Certified for Sport, which is considered the gold standard in third-party testing. This rigorous certification process screens for heavy metals, contaminants, banned substances, and ensures that what’s on the nutrition facts panel is what’s in the product. While this level of testing is not required, we pursue it to provide an added layer of assurance for our customers, athletes, and health-conscious families alike.
We are so grateful for our community, thank you for learning and growing with us. We understand that recent conversations may have caused confusion or concern, and we sincerely apologize for any frustration this may have caused. As a company built on transparency and trust, we remain deeply committed to providing safe, high-quality products and to continually improving along the way.
